Colosseum Grappling Rules Download Rules

Competitors, coaches and spectators are expected to maintain a professional / family environment while in attendance at a Colosseum Grappling Tournament. Any verbal / physical abuse exhibited during the duration of the event will result in immediate extraction and possible banning from further Colosseum Grappling Tournaments.

Colosseum Grappling Rules are loosely based on the rules used and created by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF)

You must be at least 18 years of age to compete in a Colosseum Grappling competition

Competitor Hygiene

  • Competitors must be clean
  • Nails must be clipped
  • Long hair must be put up
  • No hair color that will bleed on an opponent
  • No hairspray, gels, treatments, body lotions or creams
  • No open cuts, lacerations or active skin infections

GI Uniform

  • Must be clean and free from odor
  • Can be any color, mixing colors is allowed
  • No tears or mending
  • No wrestling shoes
  • No wrestling head gear
  • No offensive slogans or images on GI
  • Patches must be firmly attached to GI
  • You must wear something under your GI pants. The garment you wear cannot be longer than your GI.
  • GI sleeves should end no more than 2 inches from or past the wrist of the competitor when arms are extended.
  • GI pants should end 2 inches above or below the angle bone

NO-GI Uniform

  • Rash guards or fitted t-shirts
  • Board shorts, fight sorts, Lycra shots, grappling leggings or GI pants can be worn.
  • All shorts and GI pants must have drawstrings.
  • No pockets, zippers, buttons, or sticking / gripping materials are allowed
  • Wrestling shoes are allowed
  • Head gear with no metal or hard cover shells are allowed
  • No offensive slogans or images on uniform

Match Times

All matches will be 5 minutes long. At the end of each match a winner will be declared.

Unsportsmanlike conduct resulting in a Foul / Disqualification:

Depending on the severity some fouls could result in a disqualification

  • Striking / Slamming (DQ)
  • Eye gouging (DQ)
  • Biting / Spitting (DQ)
  • Groin attacks (DQ)
  • Hair pulling
  • Fish hooking(DQ)
  • Putting any part of the body into any orifice of an opponent
  • Small join manipulation
  • Attacks to the skin
  • Using foul language (DQ)
  • Attacking an opponent after the match has ended (DQ)
  • Inserting fingers or toes inside the sleeves or pants, or both hands in or on opponent’s belt, or foot inside the opponent’s belt
  • Not listening to the referee

PENALTIES:

1st Offense

Verbal Warning

2nd Offense

+2 points for opponent

3rd Offense

+3 points for the opponent

4th Offense

Disqualification

Point System for GI / No-GI
